Joanna Klass, Project Director: Director of the UNESCO-declared Grotowski Year 2009 and founding artistic director of Arden2. She is a theatre presenter, bringing a broad spectrum of contemporary theatre companies to the United States, including Gardzienice Theatre Lab, Song of the Goat, Theatr Provisorium, Modjeska Theatre Company, Kana Theatre, Wroclaw Puppet Theatre, and Association Teatr ZAR. Her work in Southern California is characterized by partnerships with a wide variety of organizations, including the Getty Center, UCLA Live, REDCAT, The Odyssey Theatre, City Garage, the Skirball Center, The Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Orange County Museum of Art, as well as numerous universities and colleges in the region. Since 2001, she has been collaborating closely with Wojciech Szaszor to curate multidisciplinary events at Arden2’s O.C. Project Gallery, which has become an artistic home for Eastern European immigrant artists and a platform of encounter with the local community. Born in Legnica, Poland and educated in Wroclaw (M.A. in American Literature), Ms. Klass moved to Southern California in 1984. Before founding Arden2, she was a facilitator and interpreter for the Polish immigrant community.
